Baker tent - the term conjures up images of traditional, open colonial tents and yet, it also takes on a whole new meaning when Ted Baker, the ubiquitous and quirky UK designer takes it over.
About Ted Baker
Ted Baker is a well known UK designer stocked in most UK and European department stores and known for his signature fabrics, playful designs and wearable clothing. There are also close to a hundred independent Ted Baker stores in the UK alone.
The Ted Baker Tent
And last year, Ted decided to camp things up a bit with his very own Ted Baker tent - a line of tents and camping equipment adorned with Ted Baker's designer fabrics and well-known patterns.
Gone are the days of drabby greens and boring greys, now your campsite can be as fun and fashion-forward as your clothing - at least Ted Baker thinks so.
The Endurance Line
The tents are part of a new camping gear line launched under Ted Baker's outdoor Endurance line - an athletic and outdoor clothing line that combines function with fun, bright, Baker style. The line also includes accessories such as bags and sunglasses.
The line of camping gear includes everything Ted Baker tents to folding chairs and sleeping bags. It's sold through Blacks, a popular UK camping store and the tents start at an affordable £90 GBP. Sleeping bags ring in at £50 and folding Ted Baker camping chairs are a mere £30.
The line also includes kitschy items like fake bearskin air mattresses and camping sacks that are just as suited for downtown as they are for the great outdoors. They're like the UGG boots of tents - stylish and yet surprisingly functional.
Quality of the Tent
Surprisingly, the Ted Baker tents are actually well-made, waterproof and built-to-last. I wouldn't take them on a six-week Arctic expedition, but they're great for three-season (spring, summer, autumn) camping and perfect for occasional campers.
For full waterproof coverage, you'll want to purchase a tent footprint - that's a piece of tarp cut to fit under your tent, protecting you from ground water and leaks.
Alternatively, you can lay your ten over a standard piece of tarp - just avoid creating a tarp pocket that can trap water under the tent.
The Festival Crowd
All of the products in the Ted Baker camping line are emblazoned with Ted Baker fabrics and bright designs.
As a result, they've become insanely popular with the music festival crowd - especially after Kate Moss was seen sporting one at the infamous Glastonbury music festival.
