Fleetwood Motorhomes:

Choosing Between Gas and Diesel Fleetwood Motorhomes

Custom Search

Fleetwood motorhomes have been crossing the country for sixty years now.

In fact, the company will be celebrating their official sixty year milestone at the Fleetwood MotorHomes Association's "Wind Your Way to Wyoming" rally in Gillette, Wyoming at the end of June.

It won't just be celebrating at the big summer rally, though. This is also Fleetwood RV's opportunity to show their latest motorhome designs and innovations, and get feedback from their customers so they can better tailor their product in the future.

Types of Fleetwood Motorhomes

Fleetwood RV makes both diesel and gas motorhomes, along with class C motorhomes, 5th wheels, travel trailers and toy haulers.

If you are thinking about purchasing one of the Fleetwood motorhomes, your first thought should be whether you will purchase a gas or diesel fueled RV.

Diesel Motorhomes

Diesel-powered Fleetwood motorhomes are good for a traveler who wants to be on the go. They are ideal for traveling often and traveling continuously.

Diesel engines are more fuel efficient and are generally longer lasting than gas-powered engines.

A diesel engine also has more horsepower and torque at a lower RPM, which means hauling other vehicles or trailers is much easier on the engine, even when driving uphill.

The chassis of a motorhome is also generally better constructed with more floor plans to choose from. The heavier chassis also makes for a smoother ride.

In 2008, Fleetwood Motorhomes released their first hybrid motorhome into their line of diesel RV's. A custom chassis and electric power train technology helps this RV increase fuel economy up to 42%.

Gas Motorhomes

The biggest benefit of a gas-powered motorhome is that it is easier to maintain the engine. Although the engine has a shorter life span than a diesel engine, it does not necessarily require a professional for maintenance.

Gas also costs less than diesel. Although it can be argued that because a gas-powered engine is less fuel efficient, this balances itself out in the end.

Though a diesel-powered engine has a smoother ride, diesel engines are sometimes smelly and loud. Although this is not as much of a concern as it was twenty years ago, diesel does have a strong smell that can put off some people.

Fleetwood's Guarantee

Whether you purchase a gas or diesel fueled motorhome, Fleetwood has a great RV Ownercare warranty that covers one year or 15,000 miles on the coach and three years or 50,000 miles on the structure.

This warranty covers everything from appliances to construction and does not have a deductible, making it easy to repair Fleetwood motorhomes no matter what kind you buy.
