RV Camping Preparation :: Motorhome Awnings Motorhome Awnings:Stay Cool in Your Motorhome with Awnings
Custom Search
Motorhome awnings are a great accessory for people who are planning long road trips or camping trips in a recreational vehicle. It is not a standard accessory on many motorhomes, but it is an easy upgrade to make to your vehicle. Since most people who are vacationing in motorhomes are planning to hit the road for a long period of time or settle down in a campground for the summer months, having ways to keep cool and relax is important. Especially since motorhomes can start to feel cramped after hanging out in them for too long. Stay Out of the Heat Who hasn't sat around in the summertime heat wishing for a little bit of shade. If you're staying in an RV-friendly camp ground, chances are there isn't much shade where you're parked. So motorhome awnings make for a perfect solution. Good quality motorhome awnings don't just provide a little bit of a temperature drop in the shade, though. They also provide UV protection. Stay out of the Rain It's not just the sun you want protection from, though. Motorhome awnings protect you from rain and snow just as much as they protect you from the sun's rays. If you are vacationing in a motorhome in colder months or just have the bad luck of hitting a patch of rainy weather, you're still going to want some time outside in the fresh air. Having an awning means you can have a barbecue or just sit down and relax in a lawn chair, enjoying the surrounding nature, no matter what the weather is like. An Awning for Every Budget There are plenty of styles of motorhome awnings. Some are rolled down using a hand-crank, and some are fully automatic. Hand-crank models are, of course, much cheaper. Although they are definitely more expensive, automatic motorhome awnings can feel like a bit of a godsend when you're traveling. Some have wind sensors and will automatically retract if the weather gets bad. And some awnings can even have lighting installed, which makes it easy to have late night meals or to sit outside and read in the early evening. An Awning for Every Taste Thankfully, since motorhome awnings are just like every other accessory, you can tailor it to your taste. You can get aluminum awnings that won't rust, weather or sag, or if you want a more colorful outdoor area, you can get a fabric canopy, like canvas. Fabric requires more care, but you get more color and design selections to choose from. If you do go with a fabric canopy, you should make sure the material can protect you from UV rays, is flame resistant, fade resistant and is treated to repel water, mold and mildew. You want your motorhome awnings to last as long as possible, so quality is key. See also: All Articles for RV and Camping Preparation
