Portable Propane Heaters:

Portable propane heaters are a great way to heat up a small outdoor space during cold weather.

Whether you are having your friends over for a barbecue on a chilly afternoon or playing outdoor sports in the wintertime, gathering around portable propane heaters make it easy to take the chill off.

One of the things that makes a portable propane heater so convenient is that you do not have to mount it to a floor or wall. You also don't require a permit for a portable propane heater, like you would for a permanent heater.

What is Propane?

To put it shortly, propane is fuel. Propane is used in many barbecues, furnaces, to power motor vehicles like some trains and buses, and in portable stoves and portable propane heaters.

Many companies - including Coleman, Mr. Heater and Master Propane - make portable propane heaters that can be used year-round.

Uses for Portable Propane Heaters

Portable propane heaters are ideal for barns, garages and warehouses. Their portability and easy access to propane also makes them great heaters for camping, fishing or hunting trips.

They can also be helpful in a safe outdoor location in your yard or on your patio.

Portable propane heaters are commonly used on restaurant patios to help keep the chill off customers at night or in cooler seasons.

Keep Your Propane Heater Outside!

Portable propane heaters are not made for heating indoor spaces. It is incredibly dangerous to have a combustible material like propane in an enclosed space because of the increased risk of fire and health hazards like carbon monoxide emissions.

You should also never use a portable propane heater in an enclosed area like a tent or a vehicle. Even with open windows you are at risk for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Propane Heaters vs. Electric Heaters

Electric heaters are a better option than portable propane heaters if you are looking to heat indoor spaces.

Though they can be more costly and portable propane heaters are also generally less expensive to run than electric heaters, they are much safer.

Safety Tips

If you smell gas emanating from your portable propane heater, shut off the gas supply immediately and snuff any nearby open flames. Use soapy water to regularly check for leaks every time the cylinder is replaced.

And use your common sense! Don't touch the heater while it is in use. And don't put flammable objects or use aerosol sprays or alcohol near your portable propane heaters.
