The Benefits of RV Covers

RV covers seem like a trivial accessory for your motorhome, but they can actually help keep your RV in tip top condition both inside and out.

But just as if you were shopping for clothes for yourself, you have to keep a few things in mind when you're shopping to outfit your RV.

Why Buy a Cover?

An RV is built tough, meant to stand up to the elements throughout the time you own and use them, but even they can use a little protection to make sure they last as long as possible. RV covers can protect your RV from the sun, rain, wind and cold.

If your RV is in storage or sitting around in your parking lot while it's not in use, it can also get water damage from heavy rainfall. An RV cover can help protect it.

When you're on the road, since your RV is always outside, the chassis can face UV damage from the suns rays beating down on the paint all day every day.

And a new paint job, especially a custom one, isn't cheap. It can cost upwards of $10,000.

And if you've decided to park somewhere for a while to camp or take in the sights, you can put your RV cover on to help protect it from the sun or even the cold.

A polypropylene RV cover will help cut the wind and cold and offer a little bit more insulation on chilly nights.

Get a Quality Fabric

Just like you would when you're picking things to cover your own skin when you're out hiking or on the road, you want to pick the right fabric for your RV cover. You are looking for waterproof fabric that is also breathable.

If fabric isn't breathable, it will keep all the heat in your RV on hot days, and help make mildew and mold a problem on rainy days. That trapped moisture could also cause rust or corrosion on your RV.

Fitted or Forget It

If you do decide to invest in an RV cover, make sure it is properly fitted to your RV. You should make sure you have the exact measurements of your RV before making any purchase.

If your RV cover is not fitted properly, it can get caught in the wind and cause damage as the heavy material beats against your vehicle.

It can also be a danger to anybody walking around nearby if it is too loose or does not have enough tie down points.

If you have an ill-fitting RV cover, it will also allow dirt, dust and other detritus to be blown under and not only get on your RV, but stick to the underside of the RV cover.

If gravel or other rubble is deposited on your RV or the cover with the wind banging your cover against the RV, it can cause a lot of damage.

Good Brands

There are a lot of places to buy quality RV covers, and you can even ask the manufacturer you bought your RV from if they have any custom covers available.

Goldline, Tyvek and Expedition are among the brands that make RV covers that you can buy through discount retailers online.
