RV Camping Preparation :: Waterproof Outdoor Shoes

Waterproof Outdoor Shoes:

Outdoor Shoes That are Waterproof and Comfortable

Custom Search

Whether you’re planning a riverside camping trip or a summer spent in the garden, waterproof outdoor shoes are essential.

Dry feet are critical for your comfort, regardless if you’re walking for long distances or simply spending an afternoon outside. If you’re looking for shoes that are both comfortable and waterproof, keep reading for tips on what to look for.

Waterproof Hiking Boots

Most quality hiking boot brands come with some form of waterproofing or Gore-tex lining to help protect your feet from the elements. Though Gore-tex is breathable, try to keep the shoes lightweight and airy, to prevent fatigue. Most waterproof outdoor shoes in this category will stay waterproof for at least a few years.

Waterproof Over Shoes

Also known as galoshes, over shoes are designed to fit over your existing footwear. Though practical and certainly waterproof, they’re not the best solution for long treks. Waterproof over shoes tend to be best suited for business or work attire and short distances.

Waterproof Rain Boots

While rain boots are cute, they’re not always practical. Great for splashing around in the garden or a quick walk to park, rain boots aren’t the best waterproof outdoor shoes solution for long walks. The rubber lip tends to rub against your leg, while the actual shoe design isn’t meant for intense trekking.

Waterproof Muck Boots

Another option is the muck boot. Like a rain boot, but designed for heavier work outside or around the farm. Whether you’re tackling chores outside or handling animals, a good much boot is an invaluable waterproof outside shoe.

Waterproof Gaiters

Gaiters are like over-socks. They fit over your lower leg and then attach to the tops of your hiking boots. Great for combining with waterproof outdoor shoes, gaiters can keep out snow, gravel, mud and rain from leaking into your shoes.

Waterproof Treatment

From mink oil to chemical waterproofing treatments, there are a number of products you can apply to your footwear to turn them into waterproof outdoor shoes. Before you apply a product, always remember to do a spot test to make sure it doesn’t stain.
